Lindsay Lohan Returns in Freaky Friday Sequel Alongside Jamie Lee Curtis
Lindsay Lohan is officially back—and with a bang. The beloved actress has reunited with Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis to reprise her iconic role in the highly anticipated sequel to Freaky Friday. The film, now titled Freaky Friday 2, brings back the magic of the original with a new twist and even deeper emotional stakes. Fans of the original 2003 hit are rejoicing as both stars appeared on Good Morning America to talk about the new film, their friendship, and what makes this return so special.

The idea for the sequel didn’t emerge out of nowhere. Jamie Lee Curtis revealed during the interview that she had been relentlessly lobbying Disney to make it happen. “Everywhere I went, people only wanted to talk about Lindsay and Freaky Friday,” she said. After realizing that Lindsay Lohan had reached an age where it would make sense for her to play the mother of a teenager, Curtis approached Disney CEO Bob Iger directly.
“I wrote him an email,” Curtis recalled. “Then he called me, and we talked. And now here we are.”
Lindsay Lohan Embraces Motherhood—Onscreen and Off
A major part of the sequel’s emotional depth comes from the fact that Lindsay Lohan is now a real-life mother. “It feels nice,” she shared. “I got to bring a lot of the emotions that go with being a mom into Anna’s character.”
In this new story, Lindsay’s character Anna is a music producer engaged to a man who also has a teenage daughter. Meanwhile, Anna’s own daughter, Harper, doesn’t exactly see eye-to-eye with her soon-to-be stepsister. The twist? A four-way body switch, a departure from the original mother-daughter swap that made the 2003 version a classic.

The heartwarming chemistry between Curtis and Lohan was palpable during the GMA interview. “We love each other,” said Lohan. “We’re friends offscreen too. It didn’t feel like work—it felt like coming home.”
Curtis added that she’s known Lohan since she was just 15 and has remained close with her ever since. “We’ve stayed friends through her teens, her twenties, and now her young mom phase,” she said with a smile.
Physical Comedy and Classic Vibes
One standout scene from the upcoming sequel involves Lohan doing a hilarious physical comedy bit reminiscent of Lucille Ball. “Anytime I can have a Lucille Ball moment, I take advantage of it,” Lohan said. “You don’t often see women doing a lot of physical comedy, and I love it.”
Curtis chimed in to praise Lohan’s comedic timing and willingness to go all in. “She’s really funny,” she said. “She just got on the table and started going wild.”
Lindsay Lohan’s Career Comeback
Lindsay Lohan used to be all over the media when she was falling apart – I barely hear about her now that she’s off drugs, healing, got married, became a mom etc.
So lovely. Healing and transforming your life is very real. The doomers and media don’t want you focused on this. pic.twitter.com/dGRE9SX7G1

Aside from Freaky Friday 2, Lindsay Lohan has plenty more on her plate. She is set to star in Count My Lies, a series based on a Good Morning America book club pick. The project is already in pre-production and has garnered buzz for its gripping storyline.
“It’s really exciting,” Lohan said, noting that more casting announcements are coming soon.
A Story of Joy, Family, and Healing
What sets this new Freaky Friday installment apart is its emotional depth. The new characters grapple with grief, change, and the blending of families—all wrapped in a lighthearted, comedic package. “People need joy right now,” Curtis emphasized. “And this movie delivers that with family, love, and connection.”
